The winter season often means more time indoors and more time to read good books and see new movies. There’s no better place than the Library to come stock up for a snowy day in! We have a lot of great things happening at the Library this winter and spring. We are excited for a talk with author Justin Reynolds who is coming to EPL West River! He spent part of his youth growing up in Elyria and is now a popular author who writes heartfelt and adventurous middle-grade and young adult fiction, including stories of the Marvel superhero Miles Morales. We are also looking forward to hosting a new teen & tween event, ElyCon, in April at EPL South for an evening of gaming and cosplay and all things anime, for grades 6-12. EPL is nearly ready to share a new Strategic Plan with the community! Our EPL team is excited to get started working on new goals for the coming years. We developed the plan using data and comments from hundreds of community members who provided valuable input. One especially exciting new initiative is the Mobile Elyria Workforce & Outreach Center (EWOC) vehicle. We will be showcasing it on April 24 at our National Library Week Open House event along withmany other Library services. There will be opportunities for conversation over refreshments and desserts, and I hope to see you there! As we keep a pulse on what our community is asking for, EPL is partnering with Achieve Credit Union to present a new series on personal finance topics including a session on Economy Basics that discusses current U.S. economic trends and projections, and other sessions on Fraud Protection, Retirement Basics, and Personal Debt Management strategies. We also are looking forward to a visit by Rachel Krych, the coupon lady. With rising prices of necessities, the Library remains, as always, a place for free access to books, (we do not charge overdue fines), digital media, events, experiences, entertainment, ideas, and community. I hope you will use this newsletter to circle interesting events and go to the website to sign up. We hope to welcome you again to one of our locations very soon! Warmly, Memorial Day May 29 Jennifer Starkey
